La Crucecita, which means "The small Cross," is the place in Huatulco that most closely resembles a real Mexican town. Its central plaza has a church whose interior is covered with naive frescoes; on the ceiling is a fresco of what locals claim is the largest Madonna in the world
Tangolunda is one of the principal bays and home to five-star resort hotels, shopping areas and residential communities. Its 5 beaches and 18 hole golf course offers visitors a ton of fun in the sun.
Bahía Santa Cruz is home to 3 docking stations for cruise ships making this Bay a tourist hotspot. Specialized restaurants serve the best fish and seafood and boats leave everyday to the different bays for snorkeling and diving.
La Crucecita along with Tangolunda and Santa Cruz comprise the resort area known as Huatulco. Furthermore Huatulco, formally Bahías de Huatulco, is a tourist development comprised of its nine bays, thus the name Bahias de Huatulco.
Located one hour from Huatulco, this magical destination is perfect for bathing, playing and enjoying the clear waters of the Copalita River made up of 30 waterfalls - the largest 20 meters high. Considered one of the main river currents on the Oaxacan coast, you can also go cycling or go for a walk to explore its endless flora and fauna.
At La Bocana, the mud therapy treatment begins with local women who are descendants of the Zapotec people who created this ancient healing technique. In their clay pots they carry a special mud. It’s a mixture of sand from the beach, saltwater and fresh water. Then relax on one of the rocks and “bake” in the sun to activate the mud’s healing properties.
In Huatulco there is a wide diversity of seafood along with traditional foods such as tlayuda, mole Oaxaqueño, cecina, and the exotic chapulines (edible insects). Local seafood is available for purchase and consumption on most of the nearby beaches, especially La Entrega and Maguey. Pictured is a famous Pina Rellena con Mariscos that combines local pineapple from plantations with fresh seafood. And when you come across a food coma, there are a number of coffee plantations which are still in operation and give tours, including Finca, Las Nieves, Finca Monte Carlos, Finca Margaritas, Finca El Pacífico and Finca La Gloria. Finca El Pacífico is known for the organic coffee it produces called "Pluma Hidalgo," and it is surrounded by waterfalls and ravines. Finca La Gloria is known for the butterfly sanctuary "Mariposorio Dain Biguid", where dozens of species of butterflies can be seen and the "Llano Grande Falls".
